A Little Something for Clark Fitzgerald

May 06, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

Cruz de Ferro is a very special place on the Camino de Santiago.  This site has been created over the centuries by pilgrims leaving stones one at a time to lay down a burden or to remember loved ones. We thought it would be a good place to leave a stone while thinking of a nice young man who was taken too early.

Two Years on the Road

April 28, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

The most common question asked being "How do you manage not to kill each other?"  The answer is...we have no idea. But we love what we're doing and we love doing it with each other, so we're going to stay out for a while longer and see where the future takes us.

Running with the Sheep

April 23, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

While walking another Camino and being in the general region of Pamplona where they do the Running of the Bulls, we decided to take advantage of these bad hombres hurdling straight towards us.  Since we managed to survive this adrenaline rush, if all goes to plan the rest of the walk we should arrive in Santiago in mid-May.

Golf with a View/A View with Golf

April 09, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

Even while being out of the country it's nice to be enjoying the Masters tournament, the classic rite of spring passage.  We are in France, but since the mountains in the background are in Spain we are in Garcia country. He has a one-shot lead at the time of this photo, but the Idiot's money says he won't don the green jacket.

An Amsterdam Icon...the French Fry

April 01, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

Amsterdam french fries are the best in the world - end of discussion.  If it were possible to pair these french fries with a White Castle slider, you may very well have created the perfect meal.

An American Icon...the Original Slider

March 30, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

AKA, "gut bombs" to those with lesser pallets, the White Castle burger is a must-have once or twice a year. We were lucky enough to grab these on our way to Chicago before heading to Europe.  Combined with the french fries from our next location, you may have the perfect meal.

Hola Arizona

February 26, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

Canada to Flagstaff/Sedona is a substantial road trip that results in a definite change of scenery. It's nice to be back in the warmer weather figuring out where we're going next.

Adios Canada

February 12, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

Our plan was to be here until the middle of March, but the plan changed. It was a very enjoyable few weeks. The people are very friendly and the scenery is beautiful. If you ever get the chance to see Banff/Lake Louise, don't pass it up!

Back to Banff

January 28, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

It's been quite a few years since we were first here, and it's good to be back in Banff, Canada. This classic mountain town is about 75 minutes outside of Calgary and makes for a great day trip.

Happy New Year from the Great White North!

January 02, 2017 by Matthew Derebery

We are relaxing in Calgary with our dog Zip, who is knocking back his good luck black-eyed peas. It will be nice to stay put for a good bit and enjoy his company and the winter activities around Banff/Lake Louise

Take the Long Way Home

November 08, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

Our last stop before returning to the US is the city of Granada, Spain. We get back on Monday, and what happens on Tuesday determines how quickly we go back out again, and if it will be for at least 4 years.

Back to the Beach

October 31, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

After a few days in Madrid, we made our way to the southern coastal town of Malaga. There's a lot going on here and it's a great place to enjoy the end of the summer season.

Our favorite picture

October 22, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

The touchstone of our adventure has been walking the Camino routes in Spain, France and Portugal. We've covered about 2,000 miles on foot and this is one of our favorite pictures. It just really captures the moment!

A Change of Scenery

October 17, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

After spending a couple of weeks in Berlin, we moved on to Santander, Spain to catch the tail end of beach season. We haven't decided for sure yet, but we may go do some Camino walking since we are in the neighborhood.

Reading and Relaxing with a View

September 23, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

We are in the midst of enjoying 3 weeks above the village of Les Houches, France in the Chamonix valley. As you can see, our view of the Mont Blanc massif is a pretty good one!  The walk around the mountain, known as the Tour du Mont Blanc is roughly 110 miles, and we have been enjoying hiking parts of it.

Cruising the Fjords

September 16, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

This is amazing scenery and a must-do when visiting Scandinavia. The large ship on the horizon provides a bit of scale.

Can you see her?

September 07, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

This is the famous Kjosfossen waterfall on the incredibly scenic Flam Railway in Norway. Ancient legend has it that the seductive and beautiful forest nymphs known as "Huldras"  will appear out of the mist and lure you to the waterfall with their hypnotic singing.

Watching the Game

September 03, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

We are in Oslo, Norway spending the evening watching the Sooners open their season.  The technology is challenging and the picture isn't always great, but it's a whole lot better than nothing.

Croatian Sunset

August 27, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

Our time at the beach in Croatia has been very relaxing and very enjoyable. This has become our go-to chill out location. It comes to an end in a few days and as the sun sets we will move north to Scandinavia.

Catch of the Day

August 20, 2016 by Matthew Derebery

It was nice to have fresh fish right off the boat, grilled on the spot and enjoyed with the local crowd.
